We took the opportunity to rent our flock of 100 ewes to a solar farm just 4 miles from us. It is wonderful that we can go check on them at any time and gave myself and our pastures a much needed break. They will return home after the grazing season is over so they can reunite with the rest of the flock begin breeding for the 2027 lambing. With lots of solar going up in our area, this should provide a wonderful opportunity to increase our numbers and separate the rams much earlier due to the additional pastures provided by the solar enclosures. Ewes can also go to their own grazing location where they can be fed additional growing rations like the rams while the ewes dry up for the year and recondition for another round of lambing in the fall. Solar grazing is a perfect plan for helping local shepherds manage their flocks.
